Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Inspector Gadget….   Errr House Inspector.  Well this morning from 9 – 11:15 I went though my new house w/ the house inspector and my realtor.  I need some new shingles on the porch area and need to fill a spot next to the house/driveway with some seal and do some work on the garage/car port but other than that…. I’m GOOD!  Hooraah

Note to Brian,  Good to hear your meeting with the director went well.

Counter Offer Accepted!

June 20th, 2006

Well, Now I’ve gone and done it. I’ve pretty much bought a house. The counter offer was more or less a ‘take it or leave it’ offer. The 900 dollars I subtracted from the starting price they put back on. The closing costs I wanted them to pay they said, OK and put it on the price of the house. Not much of an offer really, but I suppose I can’t blame them, The house hasn’t been on the market a full day even, and it’s not likely that they’ll give much leeway on price, especially because it was assessed at higher than asking. Well, I bit the bullet. I decided that I really liked the house, and Jungle (yard), and accepted the counter offer. Of course this is pending other things like a house inspection, appraisal, and unfortunately parental approval (for some reason they insist on being a part of my life, I dont get it) Anyway, I’ll have more updates as time progresses, but it looks like I’ll be moving.

Edit: Adding a link to the CedarValley-Homes page that I copied locally so You can see more in depth stats about the property in case you cared.
HOME STATS

Auburn

June 19th, 2006

Well, afterwork tonight I took a little trip down Auburn street to view a house on a ‘hot tip’ I received from a co-worker (thanks Kamal!) I drove by the house and gave it the quick external ‘once over’ and I decided that I was interested and called my realtor for more info. I called her up and said,”Hi Pam, I saw this house that isn’t technically on the market yet, I only know the street it’s on, and part of the address, can you find anything out on it?” She did just that, within 10 minutes she had called me back and had the information I needed on it. I went to go walk through it within half an hour. Needless to say, I liked it and in about 10 minutes I’ll be making an offer on it. It has a LARGE (overgrown and jungle-like) “L” shaped back yard that is 90% fenced in. The basement isn’t finished but the rest of the house is nice(and it’s not even in the ghetto). If you’d like to see pictures check out my Auburn Gallery. More info later, after I get back from making the offer. I feel so grown up :) (sad really)

Photographs and Memories

June 9th, 2006

Now, I am by no means an expert on the subject of memory retention or
how that little grape in your head works but I’ve recently come to the
conclusion that photographs make you forget your memories of the events pictured in the photos.

Recently someone (sorry I don’t recall who) asked me what my earliest
childhood memory was.  I sat for a moment and pondered only to come up with no real answer.  I told them that I really didn’t know.  Being my family had so many picture of my childhood I was having problems distinguishing between remembering the actual event taking place in the picture, as opposed to just remembering the picture and having my mind tell me “Hey Matt, you were there remember that?”  And to be quite honest, I don’t know if I remember.  Yes, pictures do help me to see what I did in the past, but the actual memories of the events themselves seem to mesh with the picture and I lose track of what I actually remember, not what is shown to me.

Understand?  Probably not…  The point is, the way things are going, if someone asks me in 20 years what is the earliest memory i can recall, it’s likely that I’ll be my 13 birthday.  Ask me the same question when I’m on my deathbed and It’ll likely be my HS graduation.

Search for “a word or phrase in a file:” (ANY file type)

June 6th, 2006

Here is just a little tip. Yes, you probably knew this was a feature of XP, and by default searches, Office Documents, Text Documents and HTML documents, but what if you have a text based file with a different extension. Here is a quick registry modification to allow your XP search feature to search those files as well. I have to used this from time to time but always forget where exactly to add the registry key, as well as the value so I figure I’d post it here, if not to help others, then just to have a common place to find the little tweak. All you have to do is.

  • Open regedit (Start->Run->Regedit)
  • Expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT (you will see all kinds of file extensions listed below it)
  • If you file extension is not listed then Create a New Key and call it .whateveryourextensionis (ex .SQL or .CPP)
  • Right Click on your new key (or the one you want to change that was already created) and choose NEW->KEY
  • Name your new key “PersistentHandler” (if there is already a key named just continue on to the next step)
  • With your new key “PersistentHandler” highlighted in the Right side of the regedit window It will likely say (Default) REG_SZ (Value Not Set)
  • Right Click on where it says Default and choose Modify and enter {5e941d80-bf96-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb} into the Value Data text box.
  • Click OK, and you’re done! All you have to do is reboot and you can now use the search for “a word or phrase in a file” with your new file type.

I find this very handy for looking for a specific table or column in a large amount of .SQL scripts (when a Mac with Spotlight is not available) And for those of you that dont trust me, or think my instructions are confusing, here is a MS KB Article link for reference.

Disclaimer: If you break something, I will not help you recover your registry,

Enjoy!

EDIT: Added another Ascii art due to popular demand (and for those that couldn’t care less about searching for text in files
